Magento Vs Salesforce

Which E-commerce solution makes more sense?

16. September 2024

Salesforce has been one of the strongest competitors of Magento. But where are the differences, and which platform is better suited as an e-commerce solution? We take a close look at the similarities as well as differences between the two systems.

Salesforce is not a pure e-commerce platform

Although both software make it possible to interact with customers much more effectively and professionally, it is only Magento a real e-commerce solution that aims to guarantee an optimal shopping experience in terms of look and feel as well as functionality on the customer side. Salesforce is primarily a CRM that supports retailers in supporting their customer relationships and communications with customers and potential customers and building effective sales tunnels. Owns Salesforce an integrated commerce cloud, but it is by no means as robust or strong as that of Magento – a provider who has specialized in niche e-commerce for many years.

Magento combines B2C and B2B

Magento is an all-rounder in terms of customer spectrum – with Magento 1 as a classic B2C platform and Magento 2 as a platform for enterprise commerce and B2B. Salesforce uses two different acquired SaaS-based solutions to cover both the B2B and B2C areas, which can have considerable disadvantages: dealers who want to offer both options must license, implement and manage two separate platforms. In addition Salesforce corresponding licensing costs, whereby the manufacturer claims a percentage of the acquisition. At Magento the dealer has all solutions under one roof, at no additional cost.

Integrations are easier with Magento

Magento has in contrast to Salesforce about far more native third-party integrations. Integrations that are not native to Salesforce are often required to encode –, which in turn makes the administration more complex and drives up costs. Certain adjustments and implementations also require specially qualified programmers – at Salesforce, which in turn hinders the adaptability and flexibility of the platform.
